Both A Course in Miracles and the Bible are claimed to contain the literal words and teachings of Jesus and to be holy-inspired writings aimed at guiding the faithful to a clearer understanding of their relationship with God and to other individuals. While the two books share a common language (salvation, atonement, resurrection, etc.) and even exact verses such as "let there be light," they differ greatly in the specifics of our relationship to God, the reason we're here on Earth, our purpose in life, and how we should daily perceive ourselves and others. This page in meant to respectfully provide a means for the spiritually curious to see for themselves what the Bible and ACIM have in common and what's different, as viewed through verses shared by both.

Bible: 1:26-27 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.

Bible: 1.28 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.
ACIM: W1.38.5:4 "There is nothing my holiness cannot do." The purpose of today's exercises is to begin to instill in you a sense that you have dominion over all things because of what you are.

ACIM: T2-1.3.1 The Garden of Eden, or the pre-separation condition, was a state of mind in which nothing was needed. When Adam listened to the "lies of the serpent," all he heard was untruth. You do not have to continue to believe what is not true unless you choose to do so. All that can literally disappear in the twinkling of an eye because it is merely a misperception. What is seen in dreams seems to be very real. Yet the Bible says that a deep sleep fell upon Adam, and nowhere is there reference to his waking up. The world has not yet experienced any comprehensive reawakening or rebirth. Such a rebirth is impossible as long as you continue to project or miscreate. It still remains within you, however, to extend as God extended His Spirit to you. In reality this is your only choice, because your free will was given you for your joy in creating the perfect.
Bible: 2:6-7 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.
ACIM: W1-135.6 It is your mind which gave the body all the functions that you see in it, and set its value far beyond a little pile of dust and water. Who would make defense of something that he recognized as this?

- T9-5.6:2 What, then, should happen? When God said, "Let there be light," there was light. Can you find light by analyzing darkness, as the psychotherapist does, or like the theologian, by acknowledging darkness in yourself and looking for a distant light to remove it, while emphasizing the distance? Healing is not mysterious. Nothing will change unless it is understood, since light is understanding.
- W73.10:2 I will there be light. Let me behold the light that reflects God's Will and mine.
- W92.4:7 Strength overlooks these things by seeing past appearances. It keeps its steady gaze upon the light that lies beyond them. It unites with light, of which it is a part. It sees itself. It brings the light in which your Self appears. In darkness you perceive a self that is not there. Strength is the truth about you; weakness is an idol falsely worshipped and adored that strength may be dispelled, and darkness rule where God appointed that there should be light.

- T1-1.24:2 Miracles enable you to heal the sick and raise the dead because you made sickness and death yourself, and can therefore abolish both. You are a miracle, capable of creating in the likeness of your Creator. Everything else is your own nightmare, and does not exist. Only the creations of light are real.
- T2-1.1:1 To extend is a fundamental aspect of God which He gave to His Son. In the creation, God extended Himself to His creations and imbued them with the same loving Will to create. You have not only been fully created, but have also been created perfect. There is no emptiness in you. Because of your likeness to your Creator you are creative.
- T3-2.4:1 You are afraid of God's Will because you have used your own mind, which He created in the likeness of His Own, to miscreate.
- T3-5.7:1 The statement "God created man in his own image and likeness" needs reinterpretation. "Image" can be understood as "thought," and 'likeness" as "of a like quality." God did create spirit in His Own Thought and of a quality like to His Own. There is nothing else.
- T8-5.2:1 The undivided will of the Sonship is the perfect creator, being wholly in the likeness of God, Whose Will it is. You cannot be exempt from it if you are to understand what it is and what you are. By the belief that your will is separate from mine, you are exempting yourself from the Will of God which is yourself.
- T31-7.12 Whatever form temptation seems to take, it always but reflects a wish to be a self that you are not. And from that wish a concept rises, teaching that you are the thing you wish to be. It will remain your concept of yourself until the wish that fathered it no longer is held dear. But while you cherish it, you will behold your brother in the likeness of the self whose image has the wish begot of you. For seeing can but represent a wish, because it has no power to create. Yet it can look with love or look with hate, depending only on the simple choice of whether you would join with what you see, or keep yourself apart and separate.
- T31-8.12:7 Clear in Your likeness does the light shine forth from everything that lives and moves in You. For we have reached where all of us are one, and we are home, where You would have us be.

- 2:8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.
- 2:10 And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.
- 2:15 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.
- 3:23 Therefore the LORD God sent him forth from the garden of Eden, to till the ground from whence he was taken.
- 3:24 So he drove out the man; and he placed at the east of the garden of Eden Cherubims, and a flaming sword which turned every way, to keep the way of the tree of life.
